Many people have questions about hypnosis and hypnotherapy. These are the most frequently asked questions but please do not hesitate to contact me if there is something that you would like to discuss.
So is hypnosis safe? Yes. Absolutely. Hypnosis is a completely natural state: our brainwaves cycle through the theta (trance) state several times a day and through the night. There is no mind control. Actually, no one does anything to you. A hypnotherapist may guide you into the hypnotic state, but that’s all they do. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis. You cannot accept a suggestion in hypnosis that you would not accept outside of hypnosis (so telling my clients to rob a bank and give me the money, just won’t work!). And you can come out of hypnosis at any time. You will never be stuck in a hypnotic trance. In a word: wonderful. It’s a state of deep relaxation. You feel calm, peaceful and everything else feels distant and unimportant. Think about that moment in the early hours of the morning when you are waking up slowly and naturally – you are aware of the room around you but it feels too good to move just yet… In hypnosis, you are aware of your environment. You may experience some time distortion, but you will be aware of everything that goes on around you. You can move, talk, sneeze, even lie in hypnosis – if you want to. Yes – as long as they want to be. Some people will maintain that they are incapable of being hypnotised. This is not true. Many people are however resistant to hypnosis because they do not trust their therapist. Once they find the right therapist for them and relax, they find they enjoy the wonderful and empowering trance experience. The number of sessions will depend upon your own personal background, your issues and desires. Some problems can be resolved in just one session, some (such as weight loss or IBS) generally require 6 or more. Many conditions can be transformed in just 2-3 sessions. Stop smoking is a single session. Is hypnosis safe?
